I'm a new member to this forum, but I've owned my '94 Explorer Sport for 4 years now and its my daily driver. My A/C stopped working and I need some help fixing it. My extensive trouble shooting has led me to believe that one of the 2 wires on the low pressure switch harness is broken. I have a Haynes manual for the vehicle, but it doesn't give info on the A/C system, it just says to take it to a certified mechanic. I need a wiring diagram so I can find out where the other end of the wire goes so I can replace or repair it. Is there a factory service manual for these vehicles available online for free?

I've been into RX-7s for a while, and there are a few web sites that host the Factory Service Manual online for free. Someone took the time to scan each page and post each chapter as a PDF file to benefit everyone else with more info than what the Haynes manual shows. Is there such a luxury for Explorer owners as well?

For those interested in what my problem is with the A/C system, it doesn't work. If you apply direct power to the compressor, the clutch engages. There is continuity between the 2 pins on the high pressure switch. Same for the low pressure switch. Their is continuity between the 2 pins on the high pressure switch harness, but not the 2 pins on the low pressure switch. That is why I think there is a broken wire. The red w/yellow stripe wire goes from the low pressure harness directly to the high pressure harness. There is continuity across the wire. The other wire in the low press. harness is purple. I don't know where the other end of it is, but I think that is the culprit. Also, I changed the switch on the dash and still nothing. I changed the WOT cutoff relay too, and it didn't fix the A/C. There is power present at the 85 and 86 pins in the relay socket as it should be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
new guy

The schematic shows that the purple wire goes to the panel AC switch, and is jumped also to the defrost switch (so either will give it 12V). If you have a short it is there between the panel AC switch and the low cyclic switch. Hope this helps.

Thanks alot, that will be a big help.
