Year, Model & Trim Level
96 EDDIE BAUER
Greetings forum,

i have a problem with my stereo in my explorer and would love it if someone could tell me what the issue is.

3 speakers play ok, the one in the drivers door plays really low, almost half the volume of the other 3. I can level it out so they all play the same but then the total volume of the stereo decreases by about half.
It isnt a blown speaker, i checked. I dunno what to do...
I heard it may be the amp in the back of the truck, but again i dunno.
What can i do to fix this?
Please help

Sounds like the connector at the amp. My '97 I had did this. Amp is on passenger side, at the rear wheel well. You have to pull back the plastic trim panels around the wheel well to access the amp and its' plugs. All I had to do was unplug it and plug it back in to solve the problem, and it never occured again.

if it is the factory amp let me know. i have my old one sitting in the garage and you can have it. you will have to pay the shipping for it though.

if the speaker is not blown than i would try to unplug the amp and take a air hose and blow out both of the connectors then plug them back in. if that does not work then come back and let us know. car audio is my main thing so i am sure i can help you through this. i'll subscribe to this thread so i can check back later on.

EDIT..... are your speakers factory or aftermarket? that would be a nice piece of info as well.

Im gonna check the amp this weekend and let you know. I hope its as simple as blowing out the connectors, or removing a little corrosion... After all, it is 14yrs. Old. Lol

its all factory speakers. I flipped the driver door speaker with one from the passanger side and the driver side is still low, so i figure it isnt the speakers.

Thanks for the help xplorer82. Ill let you know what happens, if it really is the amp ill take your old one off your hands.

not a problem. just report back after you try the connectors.

oh and another thing, do you still have the factory headunit in there or a aftermarket one? i forgot to post that question in the last post. sorry.

Have a '96 XLT with JBL Premium Sound. Factory original rear subwoofer is defective. I would like to replace with a like-kind (same impedance and physical size) subwoofer. Crutchfield does not show an available subwoofer for a 4-door 1996 XLT JBL system. Can you suggest a replacement speaker? How about front and second row in-door speaker replacements too?
Thank you,
poliver

I also have a blown sub. There are many options.

From my research you need a 6 1/2" 4 ohm speaker:

Cheap:
