Well im no expert but I did the body lift myself in my garage with pretty basic tools (im a 19 year old kid thats never really done much more than change the brakes and oil on my tuck) It def works with minor modifications. so there's 3" right there. you can get i believe a 2.5" or so btf-fab lift (look through the stickies). then slap you on some 285/75's and you have yourself a good 6+ inches. Hope this helped some

And for tires w/ rims. Maybe hit up Craigslist, Ebay, local wheel stores...maybe you can find a nice used set for cheap..

yea stsmoker is right on the money. to get what you need tire wise, you would have to do both as well as get some off set rims to run the 285's. w/o rubbing

Do some reading on this forum, there is plenty of information stickied on the top of the forum as well as in just about every page, concerning lifting your truck, and what the limitations are.

A Ford Ranger lift won't work....whoever told you that doesn't have a clue about Explorer's. For starters, Rangers use a solid axle driveline, spring/shock suspension and leaf springs in the rear.

Explorer's use a Independent front and rear suspension with CV axles, and struts.

I believe they were talking about a body lift.. Ive seen more than one guy say a ranger body lift does work with minor mods.

Suspension lift on the other hand is as you say, totally different and will not work.

The PA-883 is a Ranger body lift, which is what we all use to lift the body on these.

The OP said he wants to lift it 5-6", so he's wanting more than just a body lift, which is why I wanted to clarify the difference between the Ranger and these.

Yeah, valid and important difference. Most don't realize as the Explorers/Rangers have been so closely linked for a long time.

only if you help yourself first read through the stickys if you have any questions then ask
:rangerred:
That's what I and most everyone is doing there is a sticky that tells you everything you need to know about lifting a x..most of it is pretty straightforward don't mean to sound rude welcome to the forum

Ok I have to chime in here. I am running a home built 3" spacer lift. No body lift. I have 285's on stock wheels with no rub at all. Just saying

you must have some crazy ball joint angles ... my knuckles hit the coil springs if i go over a speed bump too fast .... what else have you done to it?

Correct. I relocated the upper arm cross bar to mount below the top of tower instead of on top.

i saw your other thread ... very good idea ... i want to get extended control arms but i cant see paying $550 for em when i dont off road in it

500 was kinda steep for me also. My ex has seen a lot of heavy off roading. It is very stable at higher speeds and on gravel roads.. ok thread jack over..
