I have a 91 XL stock and want to get 6" of lift out of it. It will be for trail riding and not looking to spend alot of money. I need to know what I need to do. will a 3" body lift and bigger tires get me to 6" of lift? What are some things I will need to address? Bare with me as I have never lifted a vehicle and want to know what I need to do. This is not my daily driver and want to have a little fun with it.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

One way you could go would be to do a 3" body lift, coil spring spacers and shackles, and 32's or 33's. That'll get you about 6" over stock. 3" body lift, 2" suspension lift, then a couple inches with the bigger tires. Later.

Just go with a 5.5" SuperLift. It comes with everything and it wont get that complicated. Also try using the search feature, there is tons of information on this.

Thanks for all the info. So the super lift is all I will need? I won't have to do anything else? I know the speedo will be out but it will all work with just this kit?

Speedometer correction is simple. Superlift is a simple kit. Spring over axle conversion on rear, and drop brakets for the front. You will need extended brake lines. You may even find a kit for sale on this site.

I won't have any problems with the drive shafts or transfer case? Sorry if these questions are stupid....I want to know all surprises I may encounter. I am on a limited budget and don't wnat to start this project to find I have to spend a tonne of money on something I didn't expect. As for doing a search, the machine I normally use will not load this forum, so I am stuck using a boat anchor for accessing this forum and there is so much info and diferent situations here that it just confuses me.

So far my shopping list would be:
5.5" Super lift
32-35" tires
Extended break lines.

That is what I did with my 94. Total cost not including the new tires was right at $300 for parts. I have pics in the link in my sig.

Kenr74.....did you have to get new shocks?

No, my stock shocks worked because it was only 2" of suspension.

You can spend a ton of money if you want to. If you want to run a tire wider than 11.5 then you will need wheels 15x8 (3.75" backspacing). Depending on you axle gear ratio you may need to regear if you increase tire size ($ 500 to 600 per axle). You may also want to add traction devices (lockers or limited slip). Regear can be done at a later time. For most people a lift and bigger tires is just the beginning. Your driving habits are important to consider when making modifications.

Cheapest route is body lift, shackels and spacers with a 32x11.5 tire.
