Ok so I was removing my front driveshaft today and it was being a bear to I thought I would disconnect the speedo cable since it was in the way. Well I accidently pulled it out of the housing and some fluid came out, not much. I got it put back in but my speedometer is bouncing about 5mph up and down around my actual speed.

Well do I push it in further or pull it out. It seems to me that the end of the cable must be bouncing on something.

Either the VSS (the unit you pulled out), or the Speedo itself needs to be regreased. I just had the same problem a few hundred miles ago. Since I was troubleshooting the problem and had both the gauge cluster and the VSS out, I greased them both, put them back in, and now the speedo doesn't bounce around at all.
