After going through 420 posts, I find no reference to this question. To get
more front seat leg room, is there a way to move the whole seat back another 2 inches? The electric adjust works just fine and will crush my chest against the steering wheel, but the maximum backward movement won't let me straighten my arms or legs. The seat is held in place by 4 screws and is mounted on a platform about 1 inch high formed from the floor. Moving the
seat back two inches would add to my comfort. I am 5'11". The car is a
2000 Explorer Limited with leather seats. My old '93 Eddie Bauer seemed to have more legroom, as the seat was bucketed.

I'm the same height as you and don't have a problem. Have you checked to see if something is preventing the seat from going back further?

my dad's 6'2" and he doesn't have any problems...i think there might be something wrong with your seet the way it is

Both driver and passenger seats stop at the same rear setting. I will look closer to see if there is a restriction. We are having heavy rains from TS Fay here in Cocoa so will have to check in the morning. I had assumed that the seats stop farther forward so that the rear seats with headrests can fold forward. I can also recline the seat back a little more, but I don't like to drive lying down.

I'm 6" 1" and I don't have any problems with room at all.

I lived in Cocoa/Rockledge for 30 years and you guys sure are getting hit with Fay. I remember the flooding with a 10" rainfall we got from a hurricane and you have a lot more than 10" from what I hear.

I am thinking the memory seats might be over-riding the switch. I sure need to check it out a little more. I have over 6" of rain from Fay so far in Canaveral Groves and she is just sitting off the coast. Models are sending her your way (Pensicola) in a couple of days. We need every drop of it. We don't get this lucky very often, lots of rain and little wind.

You only have six inches? I am reading a report of 22 inches in Brevard, I know there is a lot of flooding in Melborne.

Oh, I know where Canaveral Groves is, I lived in Silver Pines in Rockledge.

It's raining too hard to check the gauge. Must be up to 10" by now with the feeder
bands going over. The huge eye has started moving west. Check out the Melbourne
weather radar. Wonderful thing that internet.....

I just picked up a 98 and I'm 6'4" I've been trying to figure this one out too. My blazer, xterra, expedition (duh), wrangler, milan, and deville were all more comfortable. I think it's just the truck and the way it was designed.

I'm 6'2" and I would like some more room. I have done it in the past with other cars by building extension brackets that bolt between the floor and seat. But those...no matter how well built...are dangerous and I don't do that any more. They haven't been through all the safety tests to see if they hold up in an accident.

I'm 6'7" and I'm comfortable enough in my '97 to have made a 9 hour drive to Maine last month. Oh yeah... and 9 hours back..... Can there be THAT much difference between a '97 and a '98?

Mike

I'm 6'6" and mine has enough room. I've driven to texas and back before, and I've had this for 4 years.

Same here, 6'3" and wishing the seat would go back a little further too.

The electric adjust works just fine and will crush my chest against the steering wheel
Yeah no kidding, it's ridiculous how far forward the seat goes. With the seat up that close, you would need alligator arms to drive.

I'm seven feet tall and am looking for an answer to this problem as well. I'm not interested in how well others fit but on the options for modifications to give me some more leg room. Has any one had luck with this?

Well, in all honesty- 7' tall might make it hard to get legroom in most vehicles... :)

Probably have to fab up new seat brackets, remove the old ones, and remount the seat.

I know this is a very late reply, but since I just recently found this thread in a search I'm hoping what I found might help someone along the way. My son is 6'5" and just bought a 2003 Explorer, I own a 1999 Explorer. Both are Eddie Bauer Editions. He always struggled in mine to get the legroom and was pretty scrunched up in the 2003. He discovered two things. 1. This vehicle has movable pedals! He was able to gain much needed legroom by simply moving the pedals to a distant position. 2. The drivers seat must be raised slightly to allow for it to move further back and then lower it. Now it is quite comfortable for him! I hope this helps.
