So Al's got it right on the money. Either multiply the tq your sending to the wheels (gears) or force your motor to make more (supercharger). A KKM, chip and exhaust will help some, but I doubt they do much for off the line. I noticed more of a difference in passing speed.
I'm not big on the selection of 4.0L superchargers out there but if it s a centrifugal then it probably won't help much on the bottom end. A roots style or twin screw type supercharger will do wonders for your bottom end though. You could always save a ton of money and just go with torque multiplication via higher ratio gears. Dont fear the gear!
Then you have to ask yourself, if you are concerned with launch times and line times/reactions, you need to get something other then an explorer.. (explorers aren't made for holeshot!)
My lil bro has a 4.3 xtreme blazer and that thing is even beastly slow - and thats with work done to it...
I would humiliate him all day long with my camaro.... Hell, I damn near get him with my 2000 explorer, yea he will get me on the line, but his 3rd is weak and the X is pretty nice... plus the chevy's govern at 96, so I guess Ford isn't that bad afterall..
