need new engine ?

The engine on my 97 XLT knocked, overheated, died. Will start, knock, overheat, and die in less than 2 minutes. No oil pressure whatsoever. Seem like I need a new engine. Should I even try to fix it or replace the engine? Interior is decent, body is decent. everything works, except the engine. Can I sell it with a broken engine? Is it worth fixing?

Sounds like you threw a bearing. I would find a recycled engine and drop that in, beyond that and you're probably going to toss in more money that the truck is worth...

If you sell it broken, you're probably going to just get scrap price, probably max $250 or so.

Check out car-part.com and type in your parameters- there are several showing within 100 miles...

Like Joe said I would just replace the engine with a good running one, if its in as good of shape as you say then I wouldn't try selling because you won't get much and sounds like it'd be worth fixing to run again.

How would I know if my engine has a hole for the EGR in the exhaust manifold? Apparently, the engine dealer said that there are two kinds of engine. VIN "P" 8th digit w/EGR hole and VIN "P" 8th digit w/o EGR hole.
