Went to my friendly Midas shop today for a quote on a cat-back with a Ravin muffler. (Z55)
The quote came back at $436, sounded a bit high.

Here is the breakdown

Muffler $136
2.25" tailpipe $127
2.25 pipe cat to muff $39
Labor $66
Misc parts $40
Tax $24

Seems allot of you from what I remember are getting cat-backs in the mid to high 200$ range.

Comments?
TIA

That is a bit high. The place I go to usually breaks down: Tailpipe: $60, Muffler: $120, + misc and taxes: $200+. They don't charge for labor or little stuff.

Sounds like they are about 100 bucks to high, but I priced it with a Z77 muffler. What model number are you using? I couldn't find a Z55 with a dual inlet, single outlet. Does your OHV have a single inlet single outlet muffler on right now?
The Z77 was $128.90

Sorry, but I wouldn't trust any Midas to put a muffler on my lawn mower. They are always over priced and they do less than quality work. I recomend going to a independent muffler shop. They should be able to beat Midas' price and their work should be of a much greater quality. Also, the only place I have ever seen charge "labor" for exhaust work, is Midas. All the other places I have worked at or dealt with include the labor in the price of the job.

price sounds about right... mine cost about 225 and thats with a Flowmaster Muffler which cost about 80 bucks.

Help

Is anyone there, I need Help!

I think its high. My custom cat back cost me $200 complete,

I paid $280 to repipe from the cat to the single in dual outlet muffler and from the muffler to two 3" chrome tips out the rear. Then i paid 75 bucks for the muffler. I had it done at an independent shop. Midas was going to charge me 40 bucks more for hte same thing. A friend of mine just had is XJ re piped with the same set up as mine at Midas. They charged him like 375 ish with the muffler, but it has 3 leaks and the put the pipes out the rear to close to the gas tank cover so it is melting to it. Other than that it sounds good  . But my sugestion in price it out at different independent shops and see what their prices are like.

Thanks for all your help.

I called around other shops in the area and we never got to a price, the 4 other shops I called said that although they would do the work they stated that I will not see any noticeable gain, just more noise. And although it would be nice to have a nice sound I am looking for more performance.

Thoughts?

Cat to muffler, 2.5"; 2.5" flow-thru muffler; 2.25" tailpipe. You should notice a power gain. Notice how you shouldn't go 2.25 until after the muffler.

where i work, we do duals for $259 that includes all pipe, mufflers (twin turbos, flow masters (and other brands) are extra) and two 3 1/2" chrome tips.
