I have replaced the ambient outside air temperature sensor twice. Both times the same result. The temperature shows about Outsideabove 40 degrees below the actual outside temperature. How can I reset it to show the correct temperature on my '98 Explorer?

Have you got it set for Fahrenheit, not centigrade?

Excellent point. My wife was once complaining about her gas mileage suddenly changing in her minivan and weeks later I noticed she had somehow switch it from MILES to KM's.

If that's not the problem, maybe the little computer in the overhead display is screwed up. There is no "reset" function for TEMP, but there is a Centigrade/Fahrenheit option.

40 degrees difference was the giveaway.

Theres no way to reset it. You can calibrate the compass thats about it.

Mine is always wrong in the winter shows 33c when its really. -10c

But works fine in the summer. I think becuase it is near the cooling fan and the temps are always changing

Centigrade vs Fahrenheit

This is not a Centigrade vs. Fahrenheit issue. The display is showing a 43 degree difference below the actual outside temperature. It is set for Fahrenheit and not Centigrade.

Are you getting these sensors from the same source? Where? I'd wonder if they're not the right part, have the wrong value thermistor in them or something, or if another subcomponent in the temperature measuring circuit has failed, but I have no first hand knowledge of that circuit in an Explorer, just some semi-educated guesses.
