i just installed a conical k&n today and mounted it using a flange from a ricer shop. everything is hooked up good and tight. my truck will no longer run! i reset the computer . all my truck does is idle at around 500rpm for a second and die, even with my foot on the gas i cannot keep it running. at first i thouhgt it was those vacuum hoses that werent hooked up so i took that little metal thing with the two nipples on it out of the original air box and hooked the two hoses back to it and ran a hose from the intake tube to the sensor and still no change, what could be wrong?

Is this the induction system? That is, does it replace your stock MAS? Or any other part other than the filter itself?

all it does is just mount a flange onto the MAS where the stock air box would hook up, the flange then connects to the conical filter, it seems to bypass those two vacuum hoses but i rigged them back up to it and still no luck

Okay, let’s try a process of elimination. Did you take the plastic off of the filter? Is there packing material inside the filter? What about the mounting plate? Is there a film over it preventing air from getting in? It sounds as if you’re not getting any air…

i checked all that, visiually it looks like air should flow fine, i even put my mouth on it and i was able to breathe freely through it, could it be my MAS? could i have damaged it some how?

It is possible that you damaged the MAS. But unless you stuck something in there and broke something, I doubt it.

Make sure the intake tube (tube from filter to throttle body) is not plugged up with a shop rag or something. Did you accidentally disconnect any wires or hoses? Check around to see if anything is unplugged. The battery is connected correctly?

If all appears to be fine, reinstall the original filter and box just how it used to be. Did this solve the problem?

If not, it may be that something else broke or clogged up. Coincidence? Make sure your getting spark, fuel and air.

Beyond this, I wouldn’t know what could be the problem.

i think it is my MAS. i just disconnected the wire that hooks up to it and my truck kept idling and it actually ran!(very badly thouhg and check engine light was on) i think im gonna try to get to pepboys to get some carb cleaner and try cleaning the sensor, BTW do you know how to get those star screws off?

ya, im gonna try putin the old one back in, but if that doesnt work it looks like im usin pedal power untill i can get it fixed, BTW-thanx for the quick responses and the help

DON’T USE CARB CLEANER ON YOUR MAS! Use MAS cleaner. You need a tool that has the star on it. Kind of like an allen wrench. You can get them at Sears.

Let us know what you find out. I hope you didn’t break your MAS but if you did, order a larger one to replace it. Might as well get some extra ponies. Or, get one cheep at a local junk yard!

Good luck.
