I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport which I had lifted last year to around 2" so I could fit 32's. I had a shop do it and they got a little under 2 on the front using TT twist and about 2.5 on the back adding leafs to the leaf pack. It has a nice look but rides like crap with the stock shocks. Feels like a moving seesaw. I am having trouble finding a replacement off road shock that is longer than the stock. I need something that will work with the lift. I have heard Old Man Emus are good. Any suggestions?

You don't need longer shocks for a 2" lift. Your old ones are bad & that's the reason for the seesaw ride.

Go with some Rancho RS5000, RSX5000 or Bilsteins for a stock Explorer.

I have the Pro Comp ES9000s on the rear of my sport and they stiffened the back up a bit. I think they may be a bit too stiff for my sport, even with a heavy (90-100 lb) tool box and about 50 lbs of other misc. junk in the back. That being said, I do like them, but my girlfriend doesn't care too much when going over speedbumps and such. Where I really like these shocks is on the highway, they control a lot of the swaying from dips and such. For their price I don't think you can go wrong with the Pro Comps.

I called ProComp, Rancho, and Monroe yesterday and they all said that they don't make an application for a lifted Explorer. I asked if I could use what they did have for stock applications and they said I would bottom the shock out with the extra travel. So.....whats the true story on this? I am not looking to do any hardcore offroading...just some light trail exploring and regular road/ highway driving.

Go to 4wheelparts.com and they give specs on the procomp shocks, they say they are for a 3 inch lift. I have over 3 inches on mine and they work great on and offroad. Again i only have the procomps on the rear, but im sure they make matching shocks for the front as well.

What they don't understand is you have not increased your travel.

Doing a TT just puts more pre-load on the torsion bars which causes the front to lift. The AAL is just restoring the factory height do to the springs sagging.

Call 4 Wheel parts or Summit Racing & just order shocks for a stock Explorer.

That's the probem with a lot of places. They just want to sell what they know & not work with you.

That's why we are here

Thanks guys!!! I had a 2000 a few years back that I had tt twist and shackles on and I ran Rancho RS5000 then with no probs. It was just recently that someone told me that I needed an extended shock so thats what got me second guessing myself. I like the procomps but Rancho is running a buy 3 get 1 free deal so I may opt for those. Thanks again for the feedback!
