Need some advice, new to this!

Hey all, Im turning 17 in two weeks and I just picked up my first car, A 2-door 1998 Ford Explorer.

Being that most of my friends have the money to afford new Jeep Wranglers and whatever else they desire, I really have no one to turn to to give me real answers to my questions about modifying my car.

I have money saved up, and I have a list of things I want for my car, I just need someone to give me advice on what I should start with and the prices.

I want:
A lift (doesnt have to be crazy, not sure how much lift is a good height to start)
A skid plate with one of those bumper bars
Eventually new tires

The interior stuff I can handle myself

most people start with a 2 inch lift by doing a "torsion twist" in the front then add a leaf or shackles for the rear...

plenty of threads around here to get started with a lift and what size tires you can use..

TT and shackles will do nicely. If you do decide to get big tires, don't get any bigger than 31's or else you risk rubbing and needing to re-gear. Tires will give you lift too

I know what youre talking about. My first car came when I was 15 and it was a 71 Cutlass with a 350 and quadrajet. That was around 2 years ago. While my other friends have 2012 Silverados...lol
