I wrote about the fly wheel woe's. pulled trans and I discovered fly wheel center broke out as I thought. However it looks like break was over a period of time with no symptoms. plus torque converter chewed up end of crank. Brother in law who is a mudder says I now need to replace crank as motor would be out of balance. if this is so is it better to get a crank kit or another junk yard motor????

You can't just drop another crank in place like that. They are measured and fit. Any good machine shop ought to be able to machine out the back of the crank and make a sleeve that presses into place - there may even be a kit for that purpose.

I wouldn't worry about the balance issue - that is the least of your worries. It is the fact that the TQ won't center properly that is the concern. The transmissions in the Ex's are sensitive to torque converter balance - and they can easily dust the front seal if things are not in line correctly.

So, if you can still locate the flywheel and bolt everything in place, perhaps you don't need to do anything except a new flex plate.
