CD changer in the console. Changer quit working,(second unit) so I thought I would install a new aftermarket cdplayer/am/fm etc.
Bought a new JVC KW-KG-500 single cd/am-fm etc.
did a test installation, hooked up the speaker wires etc. System fires up
all the fancy bells and whistles light up. I can see the equalizer lights keeping time with the sounds I can't hear. Same thing with a cd. I expect that I may have a wiring problem, however I have wired according to the install guide I think. Every thing seems to work ok but, no sound.
Anyone have a clue? My aged brain is tired from trying to dope it out with no luck. The oem head unit functions aok, just won't make noise with the new unit. Help please. (I've been thru the search etc.)BTW it has rear seat controls if that makes any difference.
Thanks a bunch.

Did you pick up the harness for the premium sound system? Best buy and future shop wont have the right ones, go to a car audio installation place and get them. If you have the correct one, you MUST connect the remote turn on to the correct wire. If I recall correctly, it is not labelled correctly, (i THINK it is the blue wire with a white stripe connects to the solid blue wire.) If you still cant get it working let me know, and I'll go take my dash off and make sure for you.

I got the kit (new connectors) on ebay.
Are saying that I should hook up the remote turn-on wire to the solid blue wire on the receiver?
The blue/white wire from the receiver connector has a flag on it indicating that it is for the remote to the amplifier, equalizer and/or power antenna.
I didn't hook this wire up to anything and I have 2 wires that are not connected in the 8 pin connector, one is blue and the other is blu/white.
I also have an orange and an orange/black not connected in the 8 pin connector.
I surely appreciate your help.

I have a 97 XLT, most likely the same setup for you:

Coming from the deck all of the wires are connected.

Comnig from the connector, I have an orange wire (illumination) and orange wire with a white stripe (Positive dimmer) and an orange wire with a black stripe (Negative dimmer) all disconnected, not connected to anything. The rest of the wires are connected to the same color wire coming from the deck, with the exception below.

1) The blue wire with the white stripe, and the solid blue wire both coming from the connector, attach those together.

2) Next, the solid blue wire and the blue wire with the white stripe, both coming from the deck, attach those together.

Then, take the 2 sets of wires you put together in steps 1 and 2 and attach those together.

Dont forget to attach the ground wire. Now try the radio and it should all work. Let me know.

Chadrax, You da' man!

Got it hooked up and flyin' high!!
Thanks a bunch!

I've only hooked up the blu/white to the bluwhite and it works great.
I will do the final install either later today or tomorrow and let you know how it works out. I may hook all 4 together and try it also.
Thanks again!

Hey Chad``

If I can impose on your good nature one more time, I can't seem to get the hang of setting the clock. I've tried it according to the oem but can't seem to bring up the clock set feature. Any idea?
BTW the receiver and cd player works great.
Thanks

Kw-xg500

JVC KW_XG500
The manual says it has a clock and there is a time display on the main panel. But, I can't get the clock set up function to come up. Manual says select "Clock H" but I can't make that come up.?

try putting the unit in standby, then pressing the menu key. I had a JVC before, and I think thats how I set it

I'll have to play with it. It's not real important, just I like things to work as designed, especially when new.
Thanks again
