First off, I searched and I couldn't find a list of OBD2 codes and their definitions, although i thought i saw one on here at one point....:-)

Anyways, as documented in my other thread, I've been chasing an idle and stuttering issue for a few weeks now.

Today when I was out driving, my Check Engine came on. So, I went and got the codes read....

Here's what I got

P0153- O2 circuit slow response(bank 2, sensor 1). This definition is what the code reader told me. My Chiltons manual here at the house says that P0153= fuel control system fault.

P1000- Continuous OBD Systems Readiness not complete

P1464- A/C Demand out of Self-Test range(I got this on the KOEO test)

I almost went and bought an o2 sensor, but figured I'd post up here first, so I'm not just throwing parts at it!

thanks,

mike

Code definitions

Here's a link to the code definitions posted on the forum:
OBD-II Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

Bank 2 sensor 1 is the driver side pre-cat sensor. I believe the DTC is saying that the O2 sensor is slow to follow the lean to rich to lean cycle that the PCM generates when in closed loop. I don't have much experience with that specific code. If you have access to a scanner you could record the O2 voltage to see if it cycles thru the proper voltage range. Since that sensor is the easiest one to replace, if you have cleaned the MAF sensor and IAC valve I would probably replace it but keep to use for a spare if it doesn't fix the problem.

Thanks!! :-) I took a chance earlier and got a new o2 sensor. Also just got done replacing the rest of the shocks, so going for a test drive to test my work:-)

Any ideas on the A/C code??

No A/C related test explained

The following is from the Ford 1997 OBD System Operation Summary:

"The HO2S is also tested functionally. The response rate is evaluated by entering a special 1.5 Hz. square wave,
fuel control routine. This routine drives the air/fuel ratio around stoichiometry at a calibratable frequency and
magnitude, producing predictable oxygen sensor signal amplitude. A slow sensor will show reduced amplitude.
Oxygen sensor signal amplitude below a minimum threshold indicates a slow sensor malfunction. (P0133 Bank 1,
P0153 Bank 2). If the calibrated frequency was not obtained while running the test because of excessive purge
vapors, etc., the test will be run again until the correct frequency is obtained."

There is nothing in the summary pertaining to A/C testing.

Ahhh. I was thinking more of the P1464 code, actually ;-) My bad, I was kinda vague!! I took an extended test drive just now, actually. CEL is still on, but the Ex seems to run better....If I remember right, the light should turn off within a certain number of on/off's, unless i have more codes set than in the original post....?

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition. I had code P0153. I went to Wal-Mart bought STP Octane Booster orange bottle. added to a half of tank of gas. Clreared the code and drove it in the highway for 15 minutes and the check engine light is still off.

You can pull your neg battery terminal for a couple min to clear the CEL. Then if you drive it and it comes back on you'll know you still have a problem.

Yeah, I'm going to try that this morning.....then if it does come right back, I'll go ahead and get the code reader.

UPDATE- pulled the batt. cable and cleared the code this morning, driven it, and so far the light hasn't returned. Got a heck of a deal on a code reader that I'm picking up this afternoon, so I can be a little more focused with future trouble shooting!!

thanks for the help! :-)
