hey everyone. Im new to the site but not new to my truck, Ive had it for three years and now that I got to know it im trying to improve on it's off road ability. where should I start ? where did you guys start ? Ive got some knowledge so alot of the work i can do myself

Welcome to the site. Your best bet is to look at the Photos Registries and Galleries to see what others have done and how they did it. See if you can't find one similar to what you want to do to your X and read up on what they did.

I layed out a simple plan to get a 1st gen Explorer ready for off-roading.

When you say "biggest lift" I'm not sure what you mean, as merely lifting a truck really high isn't at all what is needed for true off-road use, and in fact, it typically makes a truck unusuable unless you pour in a whole bunch of cash for larger axles, big tires, etc.
