How much do you want to lift it? There are a bunch of ways. I just lifted mine 2" with new shackles and a torsion twist. You can use Ranger body lifts for up to 3" I think. You can also adapt some Ranger suspension lifts for 4" I think. There are also OME rear leaf springs for 2" in the rear.

Honestly, I don't know as much about lifts as others here, but I do have a 96 2wd sport, so we're kinda in the same boat.

Explorer Pro Comp makes a 3" spindle lift for the 2 wheel drive Explorers. Coupled with a torsion twist, you can get 4 to 4.5 inches out of the deal. For the rear, you can replace the leaf springs like SCEXPLORER did or do a Spring Over Axle conversion, but that will probably give you too much (about 5.5").

SCEXPLORER owns the lifted 2wd that TarHeel spoke about:

Cranking up the torsion bars and using the Warrior lift shackles is a cheap and easy way to go, as Alec mentioned. Modifying the Ranger suspension lift will be more expensive.

Have you thought about doing a body lift?? There isn't a kit made specifically for us, but 91-94 Explorer kits can be modified with some 98 Ranger parts and work. Read the second post in this thread:
