Need Tranny Help!!!!

The Tranny in my 94 Explorer won't shift out of 1st gear,I replaced the bad vacum modulator in it last summer,was driving it a then all of a sudden there was nothing, like no tranny.I stopped check the fluid and it was empty,topped it off and nothing,I thought the tranny was shot,I towed it home and let it sit for awhile till I had time to work on it.So I go out there this weekend to work on it and it moves,but will not go above 35 mph and come out of 1st gear.I pulled the skid plate off and theres about a 2inch hole in the bottom of the transfer case.I'm wondering is this the only problem I have or is the tranny shot too?do I need to replace both? I have a parts truck with both except there is some thing wrong with the electric part of the transfer case.

Clean the governor, and check the O rings on the low/reverse servo.

Do you think that will fix it or should I swap it out since I have the other one.

Try doing the things which were suggested in post # 2 first. Swapping is another option, but is more work.

I have a similiar prob, I also can't get reverse. I didn't run out of fluid, but it shows age.
let me know if you also have no reverse and what kind of outcome you have
