need transmission help.

ok so i finished off mny transmission today and need a replacement.

what kind of transmission is this? serial number: RF-F3LP-TA040-AA

and does anyone know where i can find one rebuild or not rebuilt but in working order and for how much? i need to know what type it is so i can go check out some local junkyards

It sounds like a 4R70W. Check the door sticker for the transmission code, that should confirm what you need. Also, is it AWD?

thanks! lol not sure what im looking for. its a RWD V8 5 speed automatic i need this because im going to a junk yard tomorrow to see what i can find. besides the ranger are there any other cars that use the same transmission?

If it's V8, I don't believe the rangers transmission would be the same. But I could be wrong.

Rangers didn't have a V8, the trans has to come from an Explorer or Mountaineer with a V8.

thanks guys! but i just have two more questions. so it is a 4R70W right? and where is the best place to find that? i've looked on the sticker on the driver side doors but couldnt find anything that resembled a transmission.

Down at the bottom of the door sticker to the right under TR, if it is a U then the trans is a 4R70W
This was the only trans used with the 5.0 V8s

alright thank you so much! and when you say it was the only tranny used with the 5.0L is that for all gens?

Only the 2nd. gen had the 5.0 V8 and it started in 1996 to 2001
