Hi. I am currently overhauling my first transmission (5r55e) because the fluidpump driven gear was broken and had caused some trouble :) I noticed that on the needle bearing that is attached to the forward drum was "missing" 4 needles. Is it supposed to be that way? It has 6needles, none, 6needles, none and so on. I thought it was to regular to be an accident.

Thanks for a great forum.

Tomas, Sweden.

Thanks for the answer!

Next question. I found a ring that is split in half, is this normal too? It sais "race side" on it and is located on the rear ring gear assembley. I have a picture but can't figure out how to post it. I can't find the "manage attachments" button.

Regards

Tomas

The thin brass ring around the bearing race on the back of the rear ring gear does have a split in it, thats the way its made.

Once again, Thanks you!

What's the best way to clean up all the parts in the transmission? Soak in solvent and dry with air?

Mineral spirits, some use brake cleaner, or other, but be sure to coat everything with trans fluid as you put it together.
Don't soak the coated clutch disks or bands.

Now I am having problems again. I have lost 2 needles from a needle bearing. Is it stupid to mount it anyway or? It it one of those flat needle bearing, not the cage style.

Thanks in advance, Tomas
