Neighbor needs (transmission) help 94 F250

Replacing the Cluster might work, but I hate to be the part swapper, so I would see why the abs light is on. If it was on before this problem, then maybe its not important, but if it came on after then I would definitaley look into it. Also remember that replacing the cluster is messing with the odometer, so there may be implications there if he has it inspected / sells it.

But it does look like there is something funky with the cluster to me. I'm not sure how you would test for speed signal at the ECM, but you'd probably need the breakout box. If the abs light was on before this happened, and you can get a cluster for $35-40, then I would be inclined to try it...

I believe a cluster can be had for less, I've got lots of connections. I may even be able to get one for free to try out.

I will ask him if the ABS light was on or not, double check fuses and pull any codes that are there, hopefully tomorrow. I just want to get him back on the road.

Is the PCM ground wire attached well, sometimes that is forgotten or gets damaged. You can call some of the Lightning shops, the places who deal in the Lightning transmissions. Those are E4OD's, those trans shops would have heard of those symptoms before surely. Good luck,

If you can get one to try, then by all means go for it. Just remember that there may be more than one thing wrong, but I hope for your neighbor's sake that its the cluster, and that you can get his truck back on the road. I'm in NJ where junkyards are few and far beteween...and I've never even seen an F-250 where I usually go. There are a couple different clusters, so try to get one from the same truck. (non- diesel) because I think they are different.

Before you pull the old one, make sure you write down the mileage, in case the new one ends up staying in.

If they are like the Explorer, the gauges are in three groups. We can change any of the gauges separately from the others.

...don't quote me on this but i believe they kept with the all in one setup for guages and they are all on one circuit board with plugs to the board...

The Explorer has the gauges removable from the electronics board. If that housing with the electronics is all that you are after, you can keep the original gauges and face plate, needles.
