new 03 xlt 4.6 owner

hello all! my name is Al, and I just acquired an o3 xlt v8. I got it for a measly 1300 bucks, however it has a bum engine.

Sounds like it's misfiring really bad, however no knocking noises. The owner told me it might be a timing chain issue? He mentioned that it may have jumped a tooth? However when i started it, there were no slapping noises coming from the front of engine. Just felt like it was running on two cyls.

any input is greatly appreciated!
