Obligatory newbie post. :-) Mostly a Mopar (the old ones) guy to be honest, but was looking for a new project with 4WD and stick shift, found a '94 Explorer that fit the bill, and here I is. Don't know yet what all it needs, but I'm certain I'll be searching for answers here real soon. Looking forward to it! Thanks, Bwryan

Welcome! I share your love of OLD Mopars, found I needed a 4x4, and so have my first Explorer! It's a great forum, many experts have answered my many questions!

Thanks for the welcome's! I'll get some pics soon. Ended up having to replace the water pump after it started overheating on the drive home after picking it up. Wasn't too bad except for that fan clutch nut -- it was a real PITA. CEL was on, it read as a 157, did some searching here and tried cleaning the MAF sensor, but no bueno. Have a new (rebuilt) one on order from Summit, hopefully that'll fix it. Let's see... rear spring shackles are rusted out pretty bad, those are on order, too. Has a whine from the front transaxle, haven't dug into that at all yet. That's about it so far. :-)

Napa sells a thin wrench that fits the nut and a wrench you can put on the water pump pulley around the 4 bolts.

Yep, I got the special wrench set, first problem I had was the instructions with them were to turn the nut clockwise, and so I was trying to do that while ignoring the "right threaded" message on the fan shroud. And the instructions I had also were not at all clear what exactly it was I was supposed to put the big wrench thing around. Eventually figured out by process of elimination that it had to be the pully bolts . I also had a hard time getting it threaded back on when I was putting it all back together, had to get my wife to help steady it and hold it straight. But that's all good now. And I put the new (rebuilt) MAF sensor on last night, and CEL is gone. So another yay there!

Welcome.
