needed to get a new set of tyres as the kids dont like the noise of the insa special tracks on long journeys so bought a spare insa traction track and tried on the front for a while and seems ok definitly quieter but hard to tell cause the other 3 still humming!.i ordered another 4x 265 75 16 for £294 including delivery from paddocks which turned up today so once fitted ill post pics and what i think of them fairly soon.ill keep the specials on spare rims for really muddy days out and use the tractions as daily boots as i cant go back to stock tyres as they seem so small and odd when fitted now! .will definitley be testing them as im off to the m.o.d tank and offroading training ground in bordon on 1st november so plenty of videos to come ,hopefully none of me getting pulled out lol.

Id be interested to hear how they are, i need 4 new tyres in the next few months and want the quietest i can get, i only use the Ex for road use and dont need any 4x4 type tread tyres, any suggestions welcome.

Are the ones you got remoulds ?

they are remoulds and this is the second set 1st set special track very noisy as there for mud this set are traction track same as the old trac edge design so im told but i do a fair bit of offroading at times so obviously biased toward this sort of tyre.but they are biased for offroad and do hum very slighly!.heres a link to a couple of sites in 255 70 16 http://www.4x4tyres.com/index.php?show=tyres&rim=R16&profile=255/70 and heres insaturbo site but there remoulds but i havent had any problems with them personally ,most are sold through paddocks .com in various sizes http://www.insaturbo.com/

heres a photo of new tyres ,only drawback with remoulds is they take a bit of weight for balancing but that dosent bother me as i didnt have to balance them and i dont drive that fast on the roads!

i still prefer the mk1 rims the steel ones over the alloys but may get round to it if i get another set of tyres in the future! special track with the steel rims

well if you want iv got a set of 4 steels, they just need tidying up and im off m25 j6.

cheers for the offer,i have still got the steel rims in shed but with special tracks on and no more room unfortunatly! ill get used to alloys again in time,

Great as Paddocks just a few miles away from me let me know how you get on with your tyres as at the minute mine has bridgestones on seem more for road than cross country!

done about 200miles now with no difficulies,i must warn you they do hum but not too bad as there offroad biased for mud and sand etc.my special tracks where horrendus by comparison?.going offroading on sunday for the day so will have some videos to show how they performed. if you want quiet tyres with offroad capabilities maybe pop in there and look at some all terrains i just always go with offroad tyres as the sites i go to are usually well over hubcaps with gloopy sticky mud after everyones been round a few times and like the chunkier look and dont mind the hum:)

had a great day sunday, very very wet and very very very muddy and very windy .big turnout out of 50 to 60 4x4s mine was the only ford there .followed some landrovers and discoveries round and did what they all done was impressed ,went round in high most of the time and on some of the higher inclines it couldnt handle it so rolled backwards put in neutral and hit the low,my god what a difference that made flew up no problem.the water was up to the bumper which i was very wary of but got through no problem.ive taken a 7min video which im having trouble uploading at moment and some flex shots when sorted ill post them.tyres worked really well even in the sludge over tree stumps etc.didnt do the deep puddles bonnet hight for obvious reasons .i tried one bomb hole which landrovers and mitsubishis was getting stuck in and towed out ,i got over halfway and she wouldnt go no further and i was sideways on 2 wheels with water up to the petrol cap as i noticed after with tide line ,i put in reverse and gave her some wellie and managed to reverse out without help i inspected car after by opening doors and no water had got in at all the seals done their jobs ,i was lucky with the petrol cap though as i only have one of those emergency push in jobs and the water dripped through the drain hole half an inch deeper and it would of been in the tank .i had a look under bonnet and the only clean bit was the belt where it runs round the pulleys lol.but had a terrific time and i even towed someone back to the start through sludge hills and water it seemed like they werent there at all apart from taking the slack back up.then at the end of the day i rubbed my lights and number plates off i drove back home.i love this 4x4 its brilliant the only thing it couldnt compete with was some big wheeled jacked up petrol v8 rangerovers, but in the exs defence they were trailored to the event and driven really hard but how they get through bonnet height water and mud without a snorkel is beyond me ? maybe theres a snorkel underneath some where! oh well thats it for offroading this year will hopefully get out in the spring again.hers some club photos of event but unfortunaly im not in any that i can see!http://www.lines-associates.com/tv4x4/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=22252

thats sound awsome, i wouldnt mind having ago, but i would need some huge boots for it. is it a yearly thing or such?

most of the venues are once or twice a year the one i went to is the most popular event, theres an event on every 1st sunday of the month all over the south east but mostly close to london.have a look at the above link and look at events and also look in the galleries to see some of the terrain, its not that important to have the big tyres as if you get stuck the marshalls pull you out anyway, lots of 4x4s had road tyres on this weekend and didnt get into difficulty that i saw as thers varying degress of tracks to take !.ive spent all day claening sand of the bottom of explorer and stripped one side of all the fairing as it was full of sand due to me grounding something so it acted as a scoop when plastic fixings came out and me going through puddles etc.going to refit then strip and clean the other side tomorrow.saying that it looks quite good with fairing gone just a shame it looks like its been sprayed with bullets where the fixings go!i may get some bolts and some sealant and see what it looks like without fairings:D

couple of pics didnt get too many as i was on my own usually my brother drives and i take pics and videos!
