Got it from JCwhitney.
Black
SJ865379P Grill Guard $79.95
SJ488202Y Brush Guard $49.95
$129.90 Free shipping till September 30th
Comes in chrome also but I don't have those part #'s off hand. I can get them.

Looks good. Hard to find these for a first gen now days. Most places stopped making them. If you do find them they are over $200. This is bumper mounted not frame, & the finish is a rough powder coat instead of smooth. JCwhitney doesn't list this. Mounts to the 2 lower bumper bolts. You can also drill 2 other mount holes in the top of the bumper. I didn't do this, not sure if I will. It seems strong to me the way it is. Already drove a 400 mile road trip & it held up fine.

I've got one of these, its awesome.

Next I'm gonna build a tube bumper out 2 inch tubing and then weld my grill guard onto the bumper, and then weld on a 2 inch reciever hitch underneath. Its gonna be awesome!

Jason, I saw those in the JC Whitney catalog I have....they are really nice and I plan to get them when I have a little extra $$$$$. You are right about there not being many mods for first gens that aren't outrageously expensive.

For those that are interested, the numbers and prices for the chrome ones are:

Grille Guard: AJL865382U $109.95
Brush Guards: AJL488214T $69.95

Jason, the pics are great! Makes your truck look real good.....hope it will do the same for mine when I get them......I think the black ones will look good on mine since my Sport is midnight blue

so $170 for what jason has got?

Great looking X. Where did you get the headlights? Are they the ones from www.procarparts.com . Thanks for your reply.

what did you pay for the manik?

if you guys are going for strength i suggest going with the manik 4x4 push guard i have on my 94 http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117375
and thats after slamming into a cadilac at 20 mph holds up REALLLLLY good

i have the same one!!! it is very very strong, with rubber stoppers, with in 3 hours of putting it on i was pushing around 8yrd dumpsters,

The Manik is nice but they don't make one for a first gen anymore. I looked. when it was made is was $400! Way too much!
'92Bauer those are the euro clear lenses from procarparts.
92blusilvxlt That's $170 for the chrome version. The black I have was only $129.

On the Manik brushguard, can you disconnect the side wings? Or would you have to cut them off?

my manik is a soild wrap a round, i cam take out the smallier steel rods that cover each head light,

i got a manik too. the most solid brush guard i felt. Yea its definitly pricey but the question is if you trust it going 60+ head on to anything. if the jc whitney makes a solid front end for 120 then all the better but i have been extremely satisfied with the 380 i spent. pics look good!

My point is you can't find anything that fits a 91-94 X anymore. There's a few but they are over $400.

a couple months ago i went to a local off road shop to find a grill guard for my 93 sport.. and what they got me was sa 4 peice bolt together center guard for $180.. and it mounts the same way the one in the pics mounts. let me tell you, those 2 top mounts.. drilling them is easy, gettin the nut on the bolt from underneath is a pain. oh, by the way.. if anyone wants my grille guard its for sale : ) lol

Don't you know, only an H2 can survive a 60 mph head-on collision... :D
otherwise no grille guard made will help you if you are going 60!

Any decent offroad shop or auto trimline shop should be able to get one. I looked at places on the net and so forth and didn't have much luck. Lots of 2nd gen guards but not too many 1st. I got mine at Auto Trim Design here in Cape Girardeau, MO. Explorer Express also had one or two if I remember correctly.

Keep in mind, now, I think mine cost me somewhere over $300 so it's not cheap. But then my grill guard is frame mounted (don't settle for ones that are not). Pushes open cattle gates and holds my $20 fogs just fine.

First of all, any grill guard made for an 88-92 Ranger or 83-90 Bronco II will fit your truck to a T.

And a lot of Jeep Cherokee and Wranger, or F150, or full-size Bronc guards will also fit, some better than others. Some may take a little minor fabbing, as in a piece of metal to serve as a bracket to mount to the frame. Any decent metal fab shop can do that for <$100 (probably $50) and then a simple grill guard (as in, no side wings, just the push center) itself can be had for <$200. If you want the side wings, that's more metal and will cost more.

if you have no luck finding new maybe go used? junk yard? used auto parts online? as for a 60+mph forget the h2 straight for H1 the only good hummer lol expect many imitations(H2's) lol but yeah i would say this is THE BEST grille guard for your truck like i said destroyed a cadillac with no so much as a rip in the rubber coat

There are no shops like these where I live.

I don't plan to ram into things. I don't off road. I wanted looks. So for $129 it's worth it to me. I can't see spending $300+ for what I will use it for.

Does that matter? You can order from anywhere; I said Auto Trim Design in Cape Girardeau, MO or Marion IL carries a nice grille guard for our trucks. They can ship anywhere.

Since you already have the JC Whitney guard you're all set though. That's a lot cheaper than the Auto Trim Design one, too. Good find.
