New CAI for V8 STA

What does traction control have to do with a dyno unless your losing traction on the dyno. I don't think traction control is active until you lose traction so that should not be an issue on a dyno. There are lots of cars out there that you can't completely deactivate the traction control and they have been dynoed. I have posted on my cobra forum so hopefully I will get some responses from tuners soon I will post when I do.

Most AWD Dyno I have seen do not have power going to the Front drum....The thing that turns the front drum is the power from the front wheels....I have a 2wd so there is no power going to the front wheels.

I woudl need a dyno that powers the front drum in precise sync with the rear wheels that are giving power to the rear drums.

Otherwise the trac thinks that there is slippage becasue the front wheels are not moving but the rear wheels are!? THat's why Trac control kicks on....at teh moment Doug adn Chris from BBR areworking together to try to bypass it and also get into the transmission!

I guess we will see and have to stay tuned on this!?

Yeah I really want a tune I have bad throttle lag when I mash the accelerator I just want to be able to firm up the shift points on the trans. I hope they get into the trans codes soon so I can get the tuner.

Do the Sport Tracs have a torque management setup like the Mustangs do stock? Basically, on the Pony, it would jack with the accelerator to keep you from tearing the ass end out of the car (05+). I know that can be tuned around.

Was re-reading CAI posts, and noticed a website ad for "Econoaid Throttle Body Booster", which retails for $29.95. I read some of the customer comments and was surprised to see a lot of positive feedback of increases of 2 to 3 mpg, plus a feeling of "more power", especially when used with a CAI.

Has anyone tried this product on a 4.6 V8 ST ?

What results did you get?

Thanks

J-U-N-K.

It's snake oil. It's the "Tornado". It's junk.

More turbulent air will do nothing. The engine's computer will adjust and your net gain will be zero.

I figured as much. It it was "that good", vehicles would come from the factory with it. Surely the Mfrs would like their "fleet MPG avg" to be be another 2-3 mpg higher.

I'm always amazed at all the fuss exerted just to get an extra 10-15 hp in an RPM range that appears to be way above typical highway speed operating RPM levels...

Seems to me that CAI's, Power Commander, etc. are products that lead us to a place where we really end up with more noise, which sinply tricks us into "feeling" more power.

Or am I totally wrong? ...must confess I have never spent $$$ on any of this stuff.

CAIs offer minor gains in HP (perhaps 4-6) and mileage (.5-1 MPG). They may not be a supercharger, but they definitely are not snake oil.

Just re-train your right foot. :salute:

Yes indeed... have been working on re-training the right foot, and have been seeing results, unfortunately yesterday "school was out"... Hahahahahaha.

I asked a friend who got his Subaru dyno'd and he said a true AWD dyno has a link between the front and rear drums that can be linked on or off depending on the vehicle....in our case the front wheels would turn as usual and not think they were slipping.

A quick search found at least a couple such dynos...I'm sure there are other companies as well. For dynojet, they call it the "Linx" system....here is a SEMA 08 blurb about it. "DynoJet was on hand showcasing their new Linx system for the 424x and 424xLC2 dyno. With the new system you can now dyno modern AWD cars without fear of damaging the center differentials or avoid ‘reduced power mode’ on newer cars because the front wheels aren’t spinning."

Now just a matter of finding a shop in your area that has dropped the bling necessary to buy one of these bad boys.

Good find and good info on this Dyno. I'd like to find one in this area.

fogghornn, you will not be overwhelmed with the difference in response just by adding the intake. However if you know you vehicle you will see the benefits it gives you. Now once you incorporate a couple other bolt on mods and finish it off with a tune the rewards are greater.

looks nice

Thank you... This is what I appreciate about this forum. We can benefit from the experiences of those who have tried changing intakes, exhuast, electronic tuning, etc.

I'm interested to learn more about the change to 4.10 rear gear from the 3.55. It would be interesting to have a side-by-side run against a bone stock ST to see how much difference the package of changes will yield.

Soon we will find out the true gains of the gear install. I am hoping to have something done soon....it all depends on funds.

As far as the intake goes, adrnlnrush is right....there is not a Huge increase in power like you may get from a Supercharger! However the gains in mpg and throttle response are equated to a similar mod such as the Zabteck Throttle body...once you have both plus allow the ST to breath better out (exhaust) this intake is a MUST HAVE! and I feel at a much needed price break fomr other CAI on the market.

A filter package will soon be available using a Green Filter....so I hear.

Doug, I was going to try the airbox mod today but once I started to move a couple things in the garage the next thing I knew the garage was clean and the race was about to start. I think it will definitely benefit the intake because this thing does move some air. Also you need to get the green filters I don't want to have to buy one of the other hi-flows.

Anyone try this tube with the C&L maf housing and open air S&B filter???

This should work really well, all that would be needed would be to make a heat shield...

Cant wait to get my STA so I can start playing....

The benefit of this mod is being able to use the ENCLOSED airbox that actually draws in cooler air than an "open Filter" option. FORD did a realy good job with the design of the airbox on this vehicle.

The upcoming Green filter technology for the Airbox will help a lot too....stay tuned on that one. We should hear something come out soon!

One of the reasons I like/chose the Noc-Perf intake is that it uses the stock air box. To me it is a much cleaner install and a more efficient system than an open filter intake.
