Everyone has told me that the best places to find info on my car is on the interner. When I bought the Explorer, I didn't realise I'd need help so soon.

I've had my truck less than a month now, and I already have 2 problems come up. First thing was my gas guage flatlined and the message center comes up "--- MILES TO EMPTY" followed shortly by the amber "Service Engine Soon" light. The problem is intermittant, usually after I fill up. The truck is a 2005 model, and just rolled 33,000 miles, so factory warranty has it covered. I'm told the fule pump needs to be replaced, and it will be soon.

Also, I went to clean the back window off, and when I rolled the switch, the wiper went up 1/4 of the way, then aimed itself straight down, and never came back. The dealer already replaced some part in the rear wiper motor, so it works now. I only hope this is not an omen of things to come.

My Explorer is a huge upgrade from the 98 Civic I traded in for it. I've been wanting a Ford truck for the longest time, so I finally have my wish. So far, I'm loving my truck. It drives and rides better than alot of my friends cars, plus I have plenty of room to haul what I need to.

I'll be posting later about mods/adds I would like to do if they are possible. I did find out one thing... 2005 Explorer ODBII can't be read at AutoZone. They told me '05 and newer MUST go to the dealer. I'm still trying to find a way around that one tho.

Welcome to the site. You found the right place.

I'm sorry, but I can't help you with either of your problems as I have a '93 Explorer without all of the bells and whistles. My suggestions is to take a look at all forum headings and post your problems in the most relevant forum. Will the rear wiper spin freely on its shaft without the motor turing? if thats the case the splines on the wiper arm more than likely striped out and the arm needs to be replaced.

The other problem i beleive has to do with the fuel sender unit with the fuel pump. beleive its a known problem with 3rd gen xs and mountys if im not mistaken

Hi!
Yes, when the wiper fouled up the second time (i forgot it was already screwed up after setting it in place the first time) I decided to forget trying to get someone else to work the switch while I set it back, and it really wasn't hard to move it by hand. They have fixed the wiper, but I'm not sure what part they had to replace on it. I'll ask the Service Advisor about that when I go back this week for the other part of this.

When I first had the issue with the fuel gauge, my sales guy told me to run over a rough road to see if the sender is stuck. That never fixed it. I have the error when I first fill up, then it goes away on its own. Last time I went in, they ordered a fuel pump, and I was told that's what has been kicking the CES light and showing I had no gas left when I know I have at least 3/4 tank left. Hopefully the fuel pump fixes the problem.

Oh yeah, and if anyone here has an '02 XLT, get the liftgate checked. A girl waiting when I was there had the back glass fall out while she was driving. She was able to save the wiper.
