Im in the market for some new tires and was narrowing my search down to:

Trxus MT's
Pro Comp MT's
Mastercraft MT's

While looking around I came across Coopers new Discoverer SST and I liked the tread and the fact that it has some siping. Does anyone know anything about these tires??

I have the old style STT's on my explorer, and I like them well, apparently they redesigned the tread style so I can't help you there, but they are good tires, I've never managed to hydroplane even in the heaviest downpours, and I think that rocks.

*cough*

I like my TrXus MT's. I've had them on for like 7500 miles and they seem to be wearing well, little road noise unless you are turning. They are awesome in snow and water. I've driven them on about every surface imaginable and they do really well. They will take a few wheel wieghts to balance though, because they have really thick sidewalls and have all that tread around them, but mine do fine at interstate speeds, no vibration at all. I can kinda feel the lugs when driving through parking lots sometimes though. Great all around tires for people who occasionally go off road.

I read James T's post in that thread, I remember that he worked for Copper or something like that. Im asking about the new tread design that now includes siping and a different pattern. Should make them a little more road friendly and better off road.

out of the tires you've narrowed it down to i'd go with the trxus mt's out of all of them. they are supposed to be pretty decent onroad and probably the best offroad out of all your choices.

Alot of guys at work have been running the new style STT's so here's my input-

1- its called an "STT" not an "SST" :p

2- they are quieter on the street than the old style and wear better... just remember you have to rotate them every oil change

3- they work about the same offroad as the old style- great on trails, great in the dirt, great in the rocks, not great in the mud

4- they are a 3ply instead of the old style 2ply, and all 3 plys in the tire are thick unlike a BFG were they substitute 3 thin plies instead of 2 thick ones just so they can call it a 3 ply carcass. They are really tough.

5- they seem to do better in the rain than the old style

Honestly i hate to do it but out of all of your choices i would go with the Trxus MT's. Of course i would rather you buy an STT, or a ProComp, or a Mastercraft because it will help keep me in a job but out of all those the Swamper is the best. The Trxus MT's have become the best all around radial MT out there IMHO.

Do you know what would wear better on the road, the STT or the TrXus?

I found a place that will mount and balance a STT for $145 each. The cheapest place Ive found to just buy a TrXus is 4wheelparts for $146 without mounting and balancing.

Its a toss up on the wear. They are both going to do about the same.
