new door handles

has anyone seen the new door handles on the 2007's? big improvement. i wonder if they can be retro-fitted on the 2006's.

They LOOK almost the same... except there is a "cup" in the arm rest that was not there in 2006's.

Otherwise the door and existing handles are still in the same locations.

Why doesn't ford have the 07 explorer on their web site yet?

I don't see the difference? As far as I can tell, still no place to grab the interior of the door other than the "hidden" grab handle under the arm rest.

When you SEE a 2007 you will see the "rest/coushin" on the door, now had a cut out / handle in it...

I went to the dealer lot and saw the 2007's. The Sport Track 07's have the old 06 door handles, the regular Explorers have the new "cup" handles.

I don't know but since we're talkin brand-spankin-new parts, you should probably just ask the dealer's service department.

That would be great if they would fit. We recently upgraded from a 97 to an 06 and the door handle is my biggest complaint. The turn signal lever location is a close second.

Instead of cups on the 06 you get a padded armrest. It didn't take me long to get used to the new handle location and quite frankly, I like it hat way now.

Same here.... i even get "woah thats cool" when people see the handles for the first time.

I didn't like the door handles either at first, but they grew on me. The best part about the handles though is watching your passengers try to figure out how to open the door. Provides for some comical relief now and then.

Haven't asked my dealer cause I generally get incorrect answers...or answers like "I believe it SHOULD work".

Rpr, if you are willing to purchase them, why not do it? If it doesn't fit you can always return them if they don't fit.

I took a good look at the arm rest/door panel on my '07 this evening and it appears that the arm rest pad with the cup is a integral part of the entire assembly. You would likely only be able to replace the entire door panel. Other than that the door panel appears identical to the 2006 we had for a short while.

Thanks for checking Eric. My dealer siad the 07 panel would not fit the 06 Explorer, but I'm sure they reached this conclusion simply because it is a different part number.

I'm betting the entire 07 panel would fit and work fine on the 06. I will be checking prices and may opt to try it.
