New Drier lets out the Gas!!!!

Alright, I had my A.C serviced, They told me I needed a new Drier because it was too rusted and letting the freon out. Got it installed the next day (Last friday) and it was blowing Ice cold air, but then This mourning, When I got into the X, I let it fully warm up before turning on the A.C and it starting blowing hot air! Max AC or AC Same ****, so I looked at the compressor, it wasn't turning, which means the freon has escaped again! I checked all the pipes connected to it and it seems they are all hooked up tightly, what else can be causing this? This whole week is going to be above 90*F here in NYC.

Either they didn't find the real source of the problem (rusty accumulators are common on late 90s Ex's because of the insulation, but you can't assume that's the source of the problem) or when they installed the new part, they didn't do it right.

But yeah, I'd definitely take it back and demand it be fixed properly, because they clearly did not diagnose the problem or install the new part properly.

It wouldn't be that if the compressor isn't turning.

In MAX A/C, the blend door has very little effect on the temp. You can turn the temp to full hot, and it will still stay cold. The blend door will open to allow air through the heater core, (ALL air at ALL times goes through the a/c evap) but since the valve controlling water to the heater core is shut off in MAX A/C, it will not heat the air. There may be a very slight increase in temp, but that's it. Now, if you are missing the shut off valve for the heater core, it indeed will heat the air.

Thanks Cobraguy, Thats good to know when in the winter, having ice cold air blasting at you. But since the compressor isn't turning now I know that the freon is out and that it is leaking it out somewhere, either it's not a good connection or some other pipe that carries the freon is messed up somewhere. I'm going to have him check it out on Thursday, or Friday Mourning.

Just for info... 1991-1993 Explorers don't have that valve.. 1994 was the first year to get them but it is an easy retrofit to add it to a 1991-1993 and it does help drop the temps some when your on max a/c.

Alright, today I got it filled up with freon again but this time with some type of green dye that is supposed to tell us where the leak is. I've been driving around and it feels so good to have A.C working again, first time in 2 years now. :

We also checked it out with the UV light, but we can't find any leaks anywhere so hopefully this will point us to the right direction.

Update!!!

That Green dye that we put in, is such a life saver, instead of figuring out what is letting out the freon now I found out and I'll let the mechanic know tomorrow. The freon and the green dye is escaping from the the pipe that is connected to the electrical cables. Thats where it's releasing the freon.... Now that washer in there should be tight, but how tight should it be? Any tips so I can tell the mechanic?
