Well, I know you guys have been hearing lately from me about adding performance mods to my explorer. Well, went into muffler shop today and having a magnaflow cat-back system being put on it tomorrow for approx. $300. I can't wait to get it back tomorrow as a FIPK will be waiting to be installed on it. I will report back later with my impressions!

$300?! Is it gold-plated? :D

What motor, by the way?

thats cheap for magnaflow

thats cheap for magnaflow?

i think i have the most expensive muffler you could possibly get from magnaflow (unless you got the stainless version of mine) and the whole set-up was 125

that is cheap for a magnaflow. they usually run for $500 without installation.

they wanted to charge 800 for my moms camaro

What exactly are we talking about here? $800 for a cat-back is nuts. Maybe for a heads-back! :p

I had a Magnaflow cat-back made for mine. $220 out the door.

I can see $300-$350 for duals.. Is that what you're getting?

For cat-back, my mom almost fainted.

Yea Expo but yours do not have the rest of the cat-back pipes. You just got a muffler. :D

*note to self: do not ever buy cat back from DriverFX.com  *

i just bought my Cherry bomb turbo muffler (dynomax makes em) for $40 Canadian (like 30 US), took a sawzall to the old exhaust, and bought a new pipe for the part to connect to it, all together must have costed $50.

Next project - dual exhaust
method?
i think im gonna ask my parents friend from work (he welds gas piping for natural gas and stuff) if he could help, i'll figure out getting all the pipes bent an crap, but ask he would weld it for me. I asked my parents how much, they said beer:D.

No, its not duals. I went in and asked the guy whether I should get a flowmaster or magnaflow cat back. He said both good, magnaflow has a bit better performance and a better sound. He characterized the flowmaster sound as a "kackly" sound. He said a flowmaster would run me about 250-300 and magnaflow more like 300. This guy was reccomended to me by my good friend who exhaust work done on his 1970 Dodge Challenger and is very happy with service form this place. He said he would also put a chrome tip on it.

*EDIT* Oh yeah, and the answer to a previous question is that it is a 4.0 L OHV engine.

Well, $300 is not horrible.. I paid something like $89 for the actual muffler, and the rest was labor and the 3" tubing. Plus, I didn't get no chrome tip.

What motor? :D

EDIT: Saw your EDIT! :p

Its 2.25 in tubing so not huge. I think stock is 2 in. (correct me if wrong). He said that would be fine.

Yeah.. 2.25 will be good for a stock 4.0L. 3" was a little too big for my stock 5.0L. But it won't be for long. :D

Well lately as in that in thats all I have been posting about and I have three threads about it still on the first page.

about the pricing: my friend got dual magna-flows, the whole setup and installation w/ chrome tips something like $325. I was planning on getting dual flows for 300 so I dont think thats such a bad price.

I got my Gibson CAT Back Systems from J. C. Whitney for 279.95 Shipped they don't have it listed in there system just tell them you want to do a special order...... it sounds good and took me very little time to put it on ...... ( One of these days I'm going to get some pictures up)
