Explorers are NOT fading away, they're gaining ground in the sport truck area. I'll get flamed for this, but to me an Escape is a newer Geo Tracker.

i agree, but i wouldn't go as far as calling it a newer Geo Tracker. i think the Escape is the best looking compact SUV out, and actually, the only one i like.

i had two different honda civics over the past 7 years before i bought my Explorer. i wanted a truck, not another compact. i was ready for something completely different.

the Explorer is definitely gaining ground. they've had a little magazine coverage lately and Truckin' magazine even said underneath of a pic of a dropped 2001 EX, "..expect to see more lowered Explorers in the future".

Ground Force is making a kit for newer EX's and the market value of used 95-99 Explorer's is coming down to more people's price range. i wouldn't be surprised to see "America's Best Selling SUV" become "America's Latest Custom Trend". it's doubtful, but probable if some company made front lowering parts and put alot of money into proper marketing. just think of how many 95-99 Explorers there are out there. (hint, hint to custom suspension companies.....<cough>bell tech<cough>ground force<cough>)

as so many people are into compacts right now, i would guess that the Escape will have an explosion on the custom scene in the near future, most likely with more force than the Explorer.

Looks ridiculous. I feel the same about the Escape. It just doesn't have the looks to be a cool sport truck.

.... in your opinion.

This is an issue with many opinions but as an a Escape owner......

Go with the escape! I love mine! Although there are some changs to be made to it for me to really have fun with it...bottom line they are great. It looks nice, drive's nice, and by far is gaining some serious popularity. Trust me you would not be disappointed. :D

i think the front facea could have been reenforced a little more.....it is kinda flimsy. i personally like the looks of the mazda better....its a little more tough looking and i think it would look nicer lowered....the headlights and tail lights have more styling to them....also there is a lot of room on that front bumper for custom work like intakes and fog lights....i drove an escape when they first hit the market and man i was impressed...they have the folding seats like the old explorers where the bottom flips up so it can lay flat...i like that alot...its something that is missing on my 96 4dr. it does have lots of pick up....probably more than the other compacts for the same price....plus its not based on a car so its tougher than the rav4 and crv which are a corolla and civic with big tires. the only bad thing i could say is that it shares the tranny w/ the tarus which hasnt had a very good track record. all in all i think the escape/tribute are good vehicles and are probably real easy to lower.

the escape is a lot more modification friendly...the most recent explorers dont really have an aftermarket following
