I purchased a set of white faced overlays for my 96 V8 explorer to find out some of the warning lights didnt match up with my gauges because of the year difference. So I bought a gauge cluster from a 00? explorer so that they would line up. I installed them both(cluster and overlay) and I thought the new cluster would be wired different so that the signals for the warning lights would go the right place. I was wrong! My check engine light has been on for a while and the light(looks like low gas light) in its place on the new cluster, is lit up now. So the check engine signal is going to the same place on the cluster as my original.

Ive seen people change there clusters to get the white face gauges from a 01 Sport or such. If I want to change to an 01 Sport cluster will the signal for the warning lights go to the right places on the new cluster? Or will they still go to the same location as the stock location used to be?

Yes I know, Ive searched, there are like a million threads on this, but thats kinda the problem. So much info everywhere its hard to find what im looking for.

Thanks

The problem is the 98-01 clusters (98-current Sports) are all the same. So us 95-97 guys can't really use the 01 Sport clusters. I'm sure if you're motivated enough you can work around the problem. If I recall correctly the "gas cap" light comes on when you open your door too, right? :)

Try to find a pin out for each connector and pop the pins around.

So since I threw out my old cluster and my new one is prob not going to work without more work then I want to tackle, I should get another 95-97 cluster and put on with faced gauges from those years only?

I purchased these:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998...tegoryZ43952QQihZ013QQitemZ230035965789QQrdZ1 because they didnt have the "Halo" in the middle and they lit up the way I wanted.

Has anyone made a cluster with Autometer gauge pods? Would that be way too much work? Oh then there would not be an odometer!

I could use the speedometer and tach section I have now and puchase another set for my year and use the outside two pieces from that. Then the only lights off would be the air bag light, I think is facing backwards, and the blinkers are barely not lined up exactly. That might work.

Do you think I could disconnect the "Halo" part of the gauges so that only that part wont lite up? That might be the easiest and best route. Or I will just live with them!
