Some old guy died in his Exploder, so it got passed around from one person who didn't want it to another. Eventually I agreed to take the thing and thought I'd fix it up a bit and give it to my wife as a replacement for her canoe. As it turns out, she can't reach the pedals and see out the windshield at the same time.

Anyway, this means the truck is now mine free and clear, but it's going to take a lot of work to make it roadworthy. This thing is such a pile of bent rust it makes me laugh. Hopefully I'll eventually find the time and shells to make the thing trailworthy after that, but that probably won't ever happen on my paycheck...

Either way, I'm glad you guys are out here, because I have no real experience with these things. I've always had GM cars. At work I've mostly had wrinkles as customers over the years so most of my experience is with GM/Honda/Toyota cars. The Ford Truck thing is new.

I'm also hoping that maybe I'll know something that will turn out to be at least somewhat useful to others on here. I'd like to give back if I can.

I had to read that twice-
I was actually picturing a little woman paddling a canoe to work-:D

Now I get it.
It is to haul the canoe.

BrooklynBay: Probably. The whole left side is so wavy I must assume something happened.

jtsmith: No, no, I'm Jewish. I've got my wife driving a 1980s GM full sized wagon, specifically an 86 LeSeabre. They're called canoes.

BrooklynBay:
It definitely wasn't safe when I got it considering the condition of the brake lines. That aside, There isn't too much of safety problems with it. The frame looks good. If it weren't I would drive it as I'm the guy who always yells at the guys from the body shop for sending my crap with frame cracks for pointless wheel alignment. There's body damage for sure, but it looks like it was all just sheet metal damage.

I would fix the crap body damage, but I can't really do body work. When I have to I just beat stuff with a hammer and then fill with lead, but redoing someone else's crummy bodywork.... Really it's the paint thing that screws me up. Wavy and the right color is something I can pretend doesn't bother me.

ooooooh!!!! i get it now.. canoe.. wow im clueless!!

A friend of mine once had an early 80s Delta 88 which he called a boat. Your vehicle might have frame damage, and is not safe. I would have a body shop check it out just to be sure.

i second that idea!!
