Hello all! My name is John and I just bought my first X. It's a 1992 Ford Exploder XLT 4x4. I'm new to this forum but some may recognize me from over at FTE. So anyways here's my story.

I came across the opportunity to buy it for $100 bucks through my buddy. I know, I know, $100 bucks, it's gotta be a piece right... well the kid selling was a friend of my friend Nick, and he basically got sick of driving it, "made up" a whole bunch of problems with the truck and then persuaded his parents to buy him a new BMW (and they were pretty p***ed of because they just dumped around 10K into completely rebuilding the front end, the new engine, new windshield, etc). His parents are fairly well off, and were just gonna send it to the scrapyard/crusher so as not having to deal with selling it. Thats where I came in... being a Ford fan I said hey wait a minute, gimme that!!!

If Nick reads this, buddy I owe you one. :D

It has 167K on it, but the engine is a Jasper re-power with less then 15K on it, runs absolutely terrific. The trans is original but actually feels pretty good... considering how much the A4LD loves to blow up I plan on getting it checked out anyway. The whole truck is in amazing shape, was ordered and driven by this kid's Grampa (who owned a ford dealership and kept up on the maintenance). It has the 4x4 with the auto lockers and auto transfer case... 3.73 Limited Slip gears!!! The interior is the XLT level and man is it comfortable. The only problems with this truck are the clear coat coming off in places, a 6 inch patch of crappily done bondo on the right wheel arch and It leaks fuel. It only leaks when running, which I think is a problem with that whole sending unit mess that goes in the tank.

I put some pictures of her below.

So thats about it. I plan on fixing the little stuff and then moving along to engine modding (provided the trans is in good shape) and maybe a lift 'n tires. Eventually a 347 Swap when the 4.0L goes but I have looong time 'til that happens. :)

I've read a lot on this site and I have the Ford dealer service CD so I'm somewhat familiar with this thing now. I also got with it some spare parts and rims... so if anyone needs a nice set of stock rims lemme know.

Thanks in advance for all the help I know I will ask for, haha!

Welcome to the site:chug:

My Explorer started out looking like that many moons ago... Check the link in my signature for what it's evolved into.:D

Nice rig man, I think I have your wallpaper on the compi :D

that was a great deal better than the one i got i paid $800 for my 92 4x4 all and power every thing the owner thought the trans was going out cuz when he gave it gas it kind of jumped liked it was having a hard time shifting every thing else worked fine i payed him got it home and looked it over and determined it was the spark plugs & wires it runs fine now paint is great i just put a set of 31x10.5 mud brutes on it and spaced and shackled for 2inchs i have 4-1/2 more inches of ground clearance now and love it. if you need any parts go to www.lmc.com or www.lmctruck.com

I was thinking of exactly that size tire and about a 2 inch lift. I believe thats the most tire possible under a stock 92? :D Thanks for the advice, I just ordered a LMC catalog for it last week and I have a bunch of them for my '50... They look to be a good company although I've never had many dealings with them.

Thats kind of odd, mine did the exact same thing on the way home... it didn't feel like the trans eather. Maybe I'll check the plugs and upgrade them if there somewhat worn... and also upgrade to those nifty JBA Powercable wires I keep running into.

Welcome, you live right down the road from where I used to live. I grew up in Lebanon Twp.
