Hey all! I have a 2000 Explorer XLT 4x4. I wanted to put a 4" lift on it in the future, but I've heard rumors that lifting this vehicle will wear out some of the 4wd components very quickly (you know, the full time 4wd that kicks in when the wheels spin  ).

Could ya'll give me some advice? This is my daily ride, and I have about a 60 mile commute each day, so what ever I do must be reliable. Thanks in advance, guys!

well first off lifting it i bet u are looking to put larger tires right? with larger tires, your gas mileage goes down. What gears do you have? I have 4.10s. Went from 255/70/16 to 265/75/16. Thats about a 1.5-2 inch increase in tire. My gas milegae went down about 2 mpg in the city. So basically if you are gonna be usaing this car to commute a lot, just think intof the gas mileage issue, especially with gas prices now a days.

Welcome to the site. I bet if you do a search you'll find more info on this.

Thanks, guys! I"m not too concerned with gas mileage with this mod, since most of my driving is highway. I believe I have 3.73 gears, but not 100% sure. I will be getting low gears thrown in to help turn those 33's  .

edit

I just checked out ExplorerDMB's 2000 XLT w/ the lift, and boy that thing is sweet! Mine looks exactly like that one (except stock), and I can finally have a mental picture of what I will see in the future. :D

ExplorerDMB does have a sick truck. i thin k he is a nice guy too. look at what he did, could be a base for you. Anyway this site is amazing, if you just search u should be able to find what u are looking for.

I have been searching the past couple of days, and I still have a question. Since I have that all wheel drive :thumbdwn: , is it feesable to change out the transfer case so I wont have to deal with the ghey AWD? Or can I change out something in the computer system? If this has already been discussed, and I somehow missed it, please hook me up with a link. Thanks in advance guys and gals! :)

If you have a v6 automatic 4wd(it's not really considered AWD around here, the v8 were the only ones to come with a normal AWD system) Then there is a wire you can add a switch to, that cuts the power to the torque on demand clutch in the t case. Do a search for "brown wire mod".
