Is there any way I can use the stock 6 disc cd changer with a new head unit? Is there an adaptor or something like that? I am hesitating to buy a new head unit because of this. I don't mind spending $200.00 on a new head unit but I don't want to spend another $300.00 on a disc changer.

When I asked my local audio shop if I could do it in my dad's '96 they said it wasn't possible...I don't know if something has changed or if they were lying, but that's what I know about it.

Usually, it only goes the other way. I know at Crutchfield we sell aftermarket changers that plug directly to the factory HU, and adapters that allow name brand changers to plug to the factory HU. It is rare that a factory changer will plug up to an aftermarket HU... It will happen no and then, VW Bug (Blaupunkt) Acura (Alpine) and a few others. But Ford systems are pretty much bargain basement deals.

My advice... Buy the new head unit, sell the changer, and put the money from the changer into new speakers. The truck will instantly sound better. Who really complained about changing CD's anyway? (Or go MP3 and that will cure all... i've gotten 10 1/2 hours on one disc)

Yeah, the HU I'm considering from Crutchfield (of course) has MP3 capabilities so that would solve that problem. I am going to buy new speakers but, like I said, one thing at a time.
