I have a 2001 Explorer Sport and plan on changing the current single-cd head unit to one mith CD/Cassette or CD/MD. The thing is..should I but it at Best Buy for $399 and have free installation or buy it on the net for $339 and either pay for installation or do it myself? How hard is it to uninstall the current head unit and install the new one? im pretty handy with these sort of things but have never done it..is it doable? please let me know..thanks
P.S.- do i need any special kit to uninstall the old one?

You can do it yourself no problem. I don't know about the 2001's stereo, but the older ones had 4 holes that you had to put a tool in to pop it out. Coat hangers work fine or they sell the tool for $5. You'll need a wiring harness and some connectors. I wouldn't buy anything from Circuit City, very poor customer service and the prices seem high. Go to http://www.tms-electronics.com and check them out. I got almost $1500 worth of stuff from them for $1000. It arrived at my door 3 days after ordering.

how do i know exactly what i need? exactly what are harnesses by the way? that may clear up tthe situation a bit for me.. thanks

Go to http://www.crutchfield.com and check out their prices pretty good and they give you the tools and wiring harness for free, also order a catalog they have a chart that will tell you what fits and what you need the web site also has this feature and will only give a list of products that fit you vehical.
