I have a 93 ford explorer xlt 4x4 5-speed manual. We have owned it for 3 years and when we first bought it we had problems getting it into 1st, 2nd, and reverse. It had just gotten a new clutch and the shop said it needed an ew pressure plate. Now we are having the same problems and can't figure out what it is. Of course it would happen now times are tough and we cant afford to take it back to the shop. We can't figure out what is wrong because we barely drive it. In 2 years we only put about 10,000 miles on it. The truck does have 140,000 miles on it. Can anyone give me some ideas or has anyone else gone through this?

Welcome to the site!

Do you know if the slave cylinder has been replaced? My understanding is that the slave cylinders are a pretty common trouble spot on the Explorers and can lead to difficult shifting.
