So I started installing my new Pioneer HU in the Mustang today and I've run into a little problem. This car has the stupid external amp for the speakers just like the ol' Explorer.

Anyways, after installation, Front Left and Rear Left speakers didn't work. Plugged back in the stock stereo and all speakers worked, just VERY quiet. (I didn't plug in the CD player, so maybe that has something to do with it.) Plugged Pioneer back in and now all speakers work except the Front Left. I wiggled and tugged all the speaker wires and they are very secure and didn't affect play in any speaker. What could be causing my speaker problem? How can I fix it?

Also, does anyone have any tips for getting the stock Ford CD player out without having the little U tool?

Thanks for any help!

I would suggest checking the connections at the speaker, MAYBE that is an issue but it may not be. If that isnt the problem check the harness itself sometimes the crimp in the clip doesnt stay seated corectly and doesnt make contact. As for the alternative to the U tool if you have a wire hanger, you can cut it and bend it to the correct shape however it will not be AS easy to pull it out since the radio removal tools have the notch to lock into the holes and the hanger will not have them.

Not sure about 1st gens but with 2nd gens, you can just remove the screws in the radio trim piece (and any knobs, cigarette lighters etc.) that are in the way. Then you slide the radio and trim piece out slightly until you can get a screwdriver in to disconnect the clips from the trim.

They do sell those u tools at WAL MART for <5 bucks

But, if you want the ghetto method,

You can use a metal coat hanger cut into 4 (or two u shaped) pieces

if the speaker its not sounding then u must have a cable not making contact, also make sure that the HU its not defective an the way to test itwould be connecting a speakers directly to the leads coming out of the head unit, just to make sure that the output works....
good luck!
