so i was at work today (best buy) and the car-audio guys convinced me to get the pioneer AVH-P5700DVD indash. Then i talked to the installer and he said that he had nothing better to do and that he would install it for a discounted price.
I ended up getting the unit, the 4 year 'warranty', and the installation for just over $700... ill post pictures later tonight. im pretty excited about it.

pictures of indash

PIctures, as promised...

with the screen inside

now this is tricky (or so they told me).. apparently, when you ground the parking brake wire, it knows its trying to be tricked so everytime your car is turned on and off it will reset itself and wont let you get a visual.

so the guys at my work made up this little button they placed under my steering column that i press to bypass the trickery of the dvd player

then you get this little screen saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me"

THE INCREDIBLES!!! (sorry about the glare)

the different inputs/outputs (the ones you cant see are dvd, dvd/r, cd, and cd/r..i think.)

its a really cool, simple dvd player.. i played around with it for about 20 minutes and can fully understand controls.. i would recommend it to anyone that is interested in an indash but doesnt want to spend an excess of $1500

it looks awesome xxscape i like it a lot way to go and keep up the good work.

Looks good. I had a pioneer one time and that thing was sweet. Does yours open when you start the truck up - and go down when you shut it off? That's one thing I loved about it. Good stuff!

yeah it automatically comes out and goes in..

this is awesome.. ive had my X for one week and already i got diamond clear corners, new wheels (backordered), viper 791xv alarm, and an indash dvd player. These things are fun to "fix up"

is it touchscreen?

sure is!

Can you explain the button to bypass the parking brake a little more? Looking for similar products (Pioneer AVIC-N2 In-dash DVD/Navigation) all with the same safety issues. Would LOVE to learn how to make it work the way we want it too!!

ok heres how the installers at my work explained it to me

usually with most mobile video units you can take a parking brake wire and ground it out, enabling you to watch tv when the parking brake isnt on. With this one, however, it can tell if the parking brake isnt on (smart level 1 i guess. smart level 2 he said is like the avic-n1, which can actually tell that the car is moving.). Every time the vehicle is turned on and off it almost resets itself, so what the button does, it tells it (the unit) that the vehicle is in park. Not too much of a hassle, just gotta press it each time i start the car

gotcha. Now how would we go about installing one for ourselves?

Does this unit play MP3 DVDs? I would love to get 4+GB of MP3s on one disc so I can stop swapping CDs out.

Thanks,

Rob

thats a good question! it plays dvds, and it plays mp3s.. so im guessing it should, but i dont have a dvd player to test it out. Next tim eim at my girlfriends house ill use her computer to test that and let you know asap.

how do you like the alarm?..also..what features does it have..im looking to get 1 installed in my 2000

Castees, i just installed one myself and to get the dvd to work while driving is rather easy... basically you just have to ground the wire but each time you start the car you will basically have to reground... what i did is i just hooked it up to a simple switch with the ground wire connected off the switch... then just take the line that is suppossed to run to the e-brake and connect it to the switch so that by switching it once will remove the ground but when switched back, it will be regrounded...

kind of a pain in the ass to switch everytime you wanna watch but whatever it works... really easy to do took about 5 minutes

Nice deck. I'm stuck with the ancient AVH-P6400. You got a helluva deal on your deck.

F the parking brake wire. I did because I often have to drive at very slow speeds on private property where there are no other vehicles or people for long periods, and it would be nice to have a flick on.

it wont be installed until wednesday.. the only guy i trust to install it is on vacation until then

Castees - beware, the N2 has new technology that doesn't use the old fashioned parking brake trick. This is why the N1 sales shot up again because this is not bypassable, you can read some online docs by Googling the new unit (reviews, that is).
