Well, unfortunatly I bouth my Explorer from a somker (but I got a good deal) and there was a lot of dirt on the drivers side roof carpet (or whatever it is) and the plastic around it and on the center console. So I bought some Prestone Carpet Cleaner at Auto Zone (Red can with a scrubber on the top) and it works wonders. Cleaned everything in my car that was dirty. Its awesome, so if anyone is looking for something to try, give it a shot and let me know what you think.

cool, thanks for the tip. I've got some fruit punch spilled in my car that i need to try and clean...except it's been stained for at least a year now.

How did it do on the head liner? That headliner stuff is pretty sensitive. You didn't by any chance take some before and after pictures did you? Did you do the whole headliner or just around the driver's seat?

my girlfriend bought a blazer from a guy that owns a red clay racetrack here, so you can imagine that the interior was pretty bad, we cleaned the whole thing with that stuff and it worked great

I have been using Prestone too, it works great. I prefer to use a different brush rather than use the brush on the cap.

For cleaning the headliner, there is a "dry" type of cleaner with a scrub brush on it. I think it may be made by Turtle Wax. It is very easy to soften the glue that holds the headliner up, so be careful when cleaning it.

For carpets and cloth seats, Folex is by far the best stuff I've ever used. Just don't use it on your vinyl and plastic - it will take the dye off!

When I used it on the headliner in the Explorer and in my truck, it worked great. I also used the brush on the can, but it probably would be better to use a different brush.

I didnt take any pictures, but I found some more dirt along the plastic trim, im guessing from the previous smoker, but if my dad has his digital camera when I go home this weekend, ill take some before and after pictures.

Guys the best way to clean the headlining and carpets is with an extraction carpet cleaning machine, I should know I have my own office cleaning company and so the equipment, I use this method to clean my car and the wifes- no residue to restain, no foam to get sticky and you see how muchdirt that comes out and wonder how much lighter the car is after!
You can often hire these machines and the extraction fluid, its cheap and is the pro way to do it with lasting results, you can even scotchguard after to help resist stains.
Good luck!
