Hi,
I just recently bought my 17 Explorer XLT. Trying to learn as much as possible with it. Like, if they don't have continuous control suspension, how does the stability control work?

Its all in the terrain management system that Ford uses. Depending on which traction control setting you set, the computer monitors things like, steering angle, acceleration and a bunch of other factors when monitoring loss of traction. Its actually pretty cool. The sand setting in the snow is LOTS of fun LOL

Welcome to the Forum Chase.
Many, if not all features are explained in your Owner's Manual. Stability Control is covered on page 192 of the 3rd printing of the Manual.
It is a good idea to read the Manual several times due to the different features the vehicle has. You can also download a copy here; https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/owner-manuals.html?year=2017&make=Ford&model=Explorer
I find it much easier to find things on the downloaded and saved Manual by using the "Find" feature offered on PDF documents.

In my experience with just playing with the settings, Sand mode seems to keep the vehicle more in 4wd. Wouldn't that equate to more traction and less fun in the snow? lol I am assuming you're getting at with doing donuts in the snow.

This is true, it does but it also doesnt limit torque where the snow mode does. From what Ive read, sand mode makes some aggressive changes to the shift points as well, lets the tranny hang in gear longer. So when you fish-tale in the snow, drifting around, its actually very controlled with the back end sliding but the front still grabbing. Its probably the most fun in this size vehicle, IMO. Drift around a corner in the snow and just point the front end and it goes that direction. So cool.
