Hi im a new memeber :)

Of course i found this site because i have an issue. I have a ford explorer 2002. It doesnt start. It cranks, good fuel pressure, and changed the plugs. think its not getting enought spark but not sure. My friend did a diagnostic check and no errors came up. Anyone have any suggestions??

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed, and moved your thread to the stock 2002-2005 section. More information is needed to determine what the problem is. Does it crank? Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the run position? Does the check engine light illuminate when the key is turned?

Hi thanks for the welcome. Yes it does crank, the fuel pump does prime, and the engine light does turn on when the key is turned. The comment about my friend doing a diagnostic check, meant, he hooked my explorer up to a code reader to see if it came up with any errors. I checked the fuel pressure and it was good. At first i thought i had to clean the IAC since i had the issue with my 2000 explorer, but didnt work. I was told, that the issue might that theres be not enough juice going to the spark plugs, since all the fuel pressure checks were good, and we even tried to start get it to at least start a little with the carb start spray, which didnt work. any suggestions would be helpful. thanks

Maybe it has something to do with the PATSII security system?

I was thinking the same thing. In the middle of the dash there's a red led, if its flashing quickly on start up then your pats has locked out your key. Try another key or get a tow to a dealership.

I got my ex stuck on the 7th floor of a garage, luckily I knew a Ford master mechanic that liked beer & had some free time. :D

im thinking its the PATSII too, but i dont get the rapid flashing theft light. Think im just going to take it in to get serviced tomorrow. Is it possible to have a PATSII issue without it flashing rapidly?

if it was your PATS it wouldnt crank at all. i just went through this in mine.

update

so after taking it to the dealership, i was told they think there is something in the fuel. they were going to charge me almost a grand to empty the tank, replace the fuel filter, and do a fuel injection cleaning. Going to take it home and do it myself, although i doubt this is the issue, but who knows

How did it run before the no start issue. Were there any warning signs? That gas would have to be pretty bad for it not to start. I sometimes dont burn a tank in 6 weeks in my other car. It fires up fine every time.
I would do the fuel filter first.

1000$??? Holy crap...

MY 72 Buick only gets filled up 3-4 times a year. I do add stabilizer sometimes... but it's never failed me.

Id do the filter only first.

But Curtis if he got a hold of some bad fuel, which happens more than we know, that could be the remedy.

I'd drop the tank and clean it, change the filter, then prime the system (open), not letting it return, then try it without cleaning the injectors. They probably don't have any trash in them. Just bad gas IF thats the problem.

My uncle had a grand prix die comming up to a stoplight. Turned out to be the crank position sensor. If it isnt fuel, thats my bet.
