Hi all I joined this forum several years ago while considering a 4 door Explorer for a family rig. Long story short I ended buying a 2004 Ford Expedition EB. Fast forward to now, I recently picked up a 1998 Explorer Sport with a 5 speed manual. It has around 168,000 miles on it. So far I have done a bunch of just preventative maintenance on it. I bought a lift for it recently and will be posting the build in the Second Gen mod section of the forum.

14.75 years to post the first message is a decent record. Welcome to the forum. I look forward to reading your build thread.

Welcome.

It has the pushrod motor. The mono leaf springs are tired so I order a 2 inch lift leaf pack from Fat Bob's Garage with the torsion keys. I put the 265 75 16 Good Year Wrangler Duratracs. The rub in the front when turning as the lift isn't on yet.

Well, fair warning, may still rub anyway even with the lift, those are what I ran on my '99. Lifted shackles in the rear, maxed out TT, with 265/75r16 Nitto Ridge Grappler A/Ts; had to trim some plastic off the bumper and the plastic rocker trim, not the actual fender or anything. But they worked nicely after that lil' bit. Yeah, monoleafs weren't great anyway, always good to swap 'em. Not a bad engine, should last, would've been nicer to have the 4.0 SOHCs power though

Nice looking rig you have there I like what you have done to it. I expect it to rub when off road and when the suspension is bottomed out. Right now it rubs pulling out of my driveway as the previous owner lowered the torsions down to match the sagging rear springs.

Thanks, man! I never got the chance to crazy offroad her after that setup. The bits I did I never really rubbed. When I trimmed, I trimmed a bit extra just to avoid it. Though I did smack the top of the fender once, only once though. So bottom out the suspension, yeah, ya probably will smack a good lil' bit, but that's to be expected. Sucks that it rubs like that even in the driveway, when are your lift components coming in? Man, I wouldn't have done that myself, I'd've just started the f150 leaf swap much sooner rather than lower the keys to match; I only go taller, not lower lol

Oh, and keep an eye on your CVs after your keys, I went ahead and got some offroad ones from trakmotive designed for us with lifted Xs, just in case of them binding up since I was maxing the keys. Just food for thought in case ya ain't gotten to it or they're a bit old.
