2002 Ford Explorer XLT V6
Hello fellow Explorers! I bought a 2002 XLT back in 2008. It's been a great ride, still is even with it's hiccups. I have done the upper ball joints, replaced the radiator, thermostat and housing, and the usual wear and tear items. I am currently replacing the water pump, and it has been a bigger pain than any other work! The tool they gave me on rental just does not fit. I even took the first one back and got what the guy says is the "Ford" tool. Any ideas on how to get this fan put back on without tearing into the large nut that holds it in place? Even the ball joints were pretty easy, I was surprised with how easy I got them in place. This water pump is just testing me! Any info is certainly appreciated.

I used a strap wrench and wrapped it around the water pump pulley. The strap wrench provided enough strength and counter-turn that I was able to remove the bolt. I also did the same thing for the four bolts that hold the pulley on the water pump.
