1994 ford explorer xlt
How goes it, ive had my 1994 ford explorer for almost three years now and its served me well. having it this long and learning all i could about it has been an experience and ive seen the many faces this car has to offer. currently im at 94k and still going. ive done a bit of work, but nothing really serious. i haven't gone into the motor yet but as far as everything else goes its been cleaned and prepped for whatever may come. im due for a steering gear and a ball joint repair. also my fuel sending unit is out and i tell how much gas i have by going on my miles...not to effective but i manage. today im going to change my front brake pads and last weekend i did a drum break rebuild. but all that aside im having a problem, when the motors been running for a good 20 minutes and its warm...not to mention its a little over a 100 degrees outside. if i sit to long with the trans in drive motor on and at norm op temp. the temp starts to rise graddually, never over heating fully but its starts to cool down as soon as i start to drive again. could this be a easy fix such as a thermosat replacement? my fan blades cracked now that i think about it and i havent flushed the cooling system since ive had the truck...does the temp gauge just tell the motor temp or the tranny temp as well? could my trans be over heating i had the water pump replaced about 3 years ago. and the transmission has a cooling system on it also. help!!

94k thats pretty low miles for a '94. not bad at all.

sounds to me like you just need a new fan clutch... if your fan blades are cracked you can get the clutch and fan together anyhow. the fan clutch is what allows the fan to spin faster when the engine is warmer and the engine is at idle, and allows your fan to disengage under driving conditions to safe fuel.

your temp gauge only indicates coolant temperature. get a transmission cooler (the type that sits infront of the radiator) if you don't have one yet (some explorers came with them if they had the tow package). its highly recommended.

Sounds good I'm gonna have to check that out and get back with u.
