2000 Ford Explorer Limite
Hey Explorer enthusiatsts! I'm having trouble figuring out of my Explorer has the sport package or not so I can replace my front end (tie rods, barrings, etc..) and what tools I will need to do the repairs. It's a 2000 model Limited with the All wheel drive and 5.0L V8. A link to a (cheap) replacement kit would be nice. I found some without the sport package, but not sure if I have that package or not..

You have a Limited. NOT the sport (two different packages)

Gen 2 front ends can be done with a reasonable set of garage tools. Open/Box ends, ratchets, etc. You will need a 22mm (IIRC) deep socket and a torque wrench to remove and then torque a new spindle nut if you are going to do the 4x front bearings. Do not re-use the old spindle nut! The spindle nut can be hard to source. PM me if you need to know a source. Tie rods will need a rented tie rod removal tool to loosen (check w/ AutoZone O'reilly etc..) , OR you can wrestle a bit with a pipe wrench and it will work. I also think Harbor Freight has a cheapo removal tool you can purchase. I have a small compressor and an impact wrench that is also really a time saver. Use the Forum as a resource and also u-toob. Shocks can be done easy enough with simple tools - do all four if you can. Brakes too.

Thanks for the info! That was very helpful and seems pretty easy to get done.
