96 XLT
Hey guys I just joined. I just bought a 96 Explorer XLT from a freind for $500. It has a burned up transmission but me and my freind have already pulled it and I took it the transmission shop today. They have a very good reputation and they're rebuilding for $1600 if it needs hard parts. They're also giving me a six month unlimited mile warranty. We should have back together and driving by this weekend. I just need to get it tagged and insured by then.

Thanks!
The transmission is BAD. The torque converter came apart and burned up the the tranny. There was about an half a inch of metal in the pan. He told me it needed a valve body, planetary, and some drum thing with splines on it. All of the clutches and bands are burnt. So really the only thing that isnt broke or burnt is the case and pan. He said that he's going to stick with his quote because he said that he quoted high in case it needed hard parts. What transmission is it? Maybe a A4LD?
